TITLE: 'Government Accountability to Gender Equality through Budgets' Panel The complementary relationship between gender responsive budgeting and accountability to the Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) was articulated at a panel organized by UNIFEM on the occasion of the 49th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women entitled “Government Accountability to Gender Equality through Budgets”.
The panel included speakers from Mexico and Senegal to highlight country experiences where budgeting processes and policies are undergoing transformation to better respond to women’s rights as a result of successful advocacy by women’s groups, parliamentarians, and government actors. The panel demonstrated how tools of gender responsive budgeting are being used to promote accountability towards gender equality goals. The following document is a write-up on the panel.
